Since 1947, National Mutual Benefit has been involved in efforts to preserve the birthplace of National Flag Day, Stony Hill School. Located in Fredonia, Wisconsin this historical landmark was purchased by Fraternal Benefit Societies and, after its restoration, became the location for annual Flag Day ceremonies. Fraternals worked hard to have Stony Hill School listed on the Wisconsin Historical site listing, and in 1977, after years of seeking recognition, the schoolhouse earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Soon after, the schoolhouse was deeded over the Ozaukee County Historical Society for the general public to enjoy.
In 1989, National Mutual Benefit agreed to assist the Ozaukee County Historical Society with financial support for the upkeep of the Schoolhouse. Then in 1990, when the Historical Society wanted to launch an educational program for elementary students at Stony Hill School, National Mutual Benefit agreed to help with set up and also provided the materials and services needed for the program to continue on an annual basis.
